ECMS-E1 Panel Installation on Utility Point of Common Connection 12470 Volts

A tailgate safety meeting is held prior to any installation and de-energizing even the controls side of the primary, literally in this case, no shutdown of the site was required. PTs and CTs in the controls were also isolated via fuses. The plan was then to mount the EMPATH system, connect on the instrument side and thread the connections through.

Some internal testing was performed to verify the conditions that are being investigated (next picture).

The data on the neutral and ground appeared as the following example gathered with EMPATH.

For the ECMS-E1 special panel, which includes the ECMS-E1, DIN rail power supplies, a cell modem and fanless industrial PC.

Connections were made piggy-backing on to existing relay device CTs and PTs with EMPATH-specific split core devices. The EMPATH software compensates for variations in this type of application.

It was pointed out that many other IoT companies are attending shows week after week. Bryan Caplan, marketing specialist from Onics Energy Solutions, caught me on a hot mic.

“While you guys are going to all the conferences, we’re actually installing this stuff…”

The device installation was completed and then local tuning was performed. The EMPATH system is an expert system originally developed by Oak Ridge National Labs in the 1980s and supported by Framatome ANP (formerly Areva). It is also manufactured in the USA.

Set up the monitoring system which will look more colorful soon.

We did, however, also have the chance to visit an AC hydroelectric powerplant built by Thomas Edison nearby.

Many, many more already scheduled!
