Abstract: Electrical Signature Analysis (ESA) is a powerful prognostic and performance tool for analyzing electric machinery through the measurements of the effects on the magnetic field as observed in voltage and current. In Part 1 the concept of radial and torsional air gap analysis was discussed with a focus on power quality and electric machine defect analysis. Part 2 focuses on the impact on the magnetic field by the driven equipment including an evaluation of the dampening effects of the load components and coupling methods. A thorough understanding of these effects will provide insight as we move into practical ESA data in Part 3, which will also include the analysis of watt losses in performance and defects.
